Emerging ecosystem tomcat not attacking humans

Paederus riparius, or more popularly known as Tomcat, disturbing the public a number of areas. 7-8 mm sized insects paederin contain toxins that can cause itching and skin blisters in humans. Edi said, Tomcat is not the enemy of man. Tomcat does not bite and release toxins only when squashed. "Tomcat is a friend of the farmer because the brown planthopper-eating pests are very detrimental to farmers," he said.

Head of Agriculture and Horticulture Department of Agriculture Government of Tuban, Sudarmudji, adding, Tomcat is a killer pest planthopper predators. "Tomcat is actually very beneficial to farmers because of their role exterminating aphis," he said.
